Financial Literacy Talk

The Financial Literacy Talk was held on 12 July 2019 to provide students an opportunity to learn outside the classroom. It involved all SACEi Economics students of August 2018, January 2019 and March 2019. The talk which was conducted by the RHB Bank was about their RHB MoneyMa$ter programme which aims to teach young people how to manage their finances, cultivate healthy savings habit and teach them to achieve financial freedom at a young age. It enabled the students to comprehend the importance of being financially responsible.

The talk involved a 90-minute interactive session covering topics like savings tips, opening banks accounts, credit and debit cards as well as ways to avoid financial scams. According to the facilitator, Ms. Zarina Muhamad, the RHB MoneyMa$ter programme was launched two years ago to create awareness amongst students of the increasing cases of bankruptcy among young adults. Ms Zarina also stressed on the benefits of starting a budget planner and explained how income can be generated through interests from savings.

The talk ended with a question and answer session. The talk was very useful as it equipped students with the necessary fundamental financial management skills to make informed life choices now and in the future. The engaging activities and informal presentation style made the talk enjoyable.
